Lake District, Argentina and Chile
Famous for its spectacular panorama of bright emerald and turquoise lakes whose surfaces mirror snow-capped volcanoes and sprawling forests, the Lake District of Argentina and Chile is a popular destination in Patagonia. Visitors are not only attracted by the beauty of the region, but also by the varied outdoor activities available, its well-structured infrastructure and the countless national parks and nature reserves. Enjoy the Andean lakes through a series of lake crossings between Argentina and Chile aboard a modern catamaran.
Torres del Paine, Chile
The Cordillera del Paine is a small but spectacular mountain group in Torres del Paine National Park. It is located 244 miles north of Punta Arenas. The best known summits are the three Towers of Paine. They are gigantic granite monoliths shaped by the forces of glacial ice. Views are breathtaking. Hikers can opt for a day trip to see the towers or trek for several days. Rustic lodges are located in the park.
Perito Moreno Glacier, Argentina
The Perito Moreno Glacier is located in Los Glaciares National Park in the southwest of Santa Cruz, Argentina, 48 miles from El Calafate. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Patagonia. There are only three glaciers in Patagonian that are not retreating, Perito Moreno being one of them. From a lookout point, you can watch the detachment of ice blocks of different sizes, hear the roaring they produce and then watch them turn into floating icebergs.
Cerro Fitz Roy, Argentina
The northern end of Parque Nacional Los Glaciares takes in the Fitz Roy range, indisputably one of the most majestic mountain areas of the Andes, and now a famous spot for trekking, mountaineering and photography. El Chalten is a small village at the entrance to the park. The name Chalten means "smoking mountain," due to a cloud that usually forms in the top of the mountain. The mountain has a reputation of being ultimate because the sheer granite faces present long stretches of arduous technical climbing.
