Copan
The pre-Columbian city known as Copan is located in western Honduras near the Guatemalan border, 2 hrs. from San Pedro Sula. It is the site of a major Maya kingdom of the Classic era (5th through 9th centuries). The stelae and sculptured decorations of the buildings of Copan are some of the very finest surviving art of ancient Mesoamerica. The nearby town of Copan Ruinas is a beautiful village paved in cobblestone and lined with white adobe buildings with red-tile roofs. There are several accommodation choices in the area. |
Bay Islands
Located a short distance off the Caribbean coast, the Bay Islands consist of a series of islands and small cayes. The 3 largest islands are the most popular: Roatan, Utila and Guanaja. The islands boast splendid beaches and world class scuba diving on pristine coral reefs. |
