SHOPPING
Guatemala is famous for beautiful high quality textiles. Chichicastenango's twice weekly open air market is probably the most famous market in the country. You can find similar products all around the country but you won't find so much in one place and with so much atmosphere. Chichi is not to be missed. |
RUINS
Along with the beautiful textiles, Guatemala is also known for the premier Mayan Ruins
at Tikal in Petén Department of Guatemala. In addition to Tikal there is Aguateca, not for the average tourist, but getting there is half the fun. There are no imposing temples, although its ruins are among the best preserved and restored of the Mayan sites in Guatemala.

HIKING
Guatemala offers active travelers the chance to hike on ancient Maya routes and through colorful villages. Mountainous Guatemala is a hiker's heaven with many mountain trails and volcanoes for all levels. The paths around Lake Atitlan provide a unique opportunity to hike through small villages and observe local Maya people working in the field and fishing in their wooden boats. |
