HIKING
A popular hiking destination in Ecuador is Cotopaxi National Park. The Cotopaxi Volcano, seen from Quito, is the centerpiece of the park. There are a number of hiking options for all levels.

BIRDING & WILDLIFE
Those fortunate enough to visit the Galapagos islands off the coast of Ecuador will undoubtedly see the most amazing and unique wildlife in the world. There are as many as 26 endemic species in the Galapagos including the Giant Tortoises, Marine Iguanas, Boobies, and of course, Darwin's Finches.
The Amazon region of Ecuador is home to a number of lodges offering guests the chance to experience both the indigenous people and the rich, diverse wildlife. Programs at the lodges are adjusted to the guest's interests and ability.
The Andean Condor is still found in the high altitude areas 10,000' in Ecuador. Most are seen soaring above the high altitude grasslands where they search for food.

SHOPPING
The artisans of Ecuador produce many fine crafts and most can be found in the markets around the country such as the famous open-air market at Otavalo. Saturday is the main market day here and you'll find everything from textiles to livestock. Many towns throughout Ecuador are known for producing particular items such as the leather goods from Cotacachi and wood products from Ibarra. |
