One of Chile's most popular regions for trekking is the Lake District, which lies some 560 miles south of Santiago, and where several of the country's national parks can be visited. Torres del Paine National Park is well known for its hiking possibilities. From easy day hikes to challenging overnight treks, this is what brings so many adventure travelers to Chile.

Chile is also home to four species of penguins. Magellan penguins can be found as far North as Puerto Montt, and the Humboldt Penguins have a small colony on the Island of Chiloe.

FISHING
The Lakes District is a fisherman's paradise. Hundreds of mountain streams flow into beautiful mountain lakes. Troll fishing during the morning at Llanquihue Lake is excellent. And, besides fishing for trout and salmon, the view that surrounds the lake of the Osorno and Calbuco volcanos is magnificent. |
