Canopy Walkway, Iquitos, Peru
The Canopy Walkway is a suspended bridge spanning over one third of a mile, connected by tree platforms and reaching a height of over 115 feet above the ground. It is an experience that is without parallel in the Amazon rainforest. It is accessed by a trail from ExplorNapo Lodge and is also a day trip by boat and trail from Ceiba Tops Lodge.
Parrot Clay Licks, Peru
Tambopata National Reserve is accessible by a domestic flight from Cuzco or Lima to Puerto Maldonado and a land transfer to the lodge. The single most important feature of Tambopata Reserve is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see one of the world's most spectacular wildlife phenomena: a place where thousands of parrots daily congregate to lick mineral rich red clay. From the largest parrots, macaws, to the smallest parrots, parakeets, the grand assembly of birds chatter, sing and screech in all the nearby trees. Precariously clinging to the bank, the birds boisterously ingest tiny bits of the mineral rich clay.
Achuar Indigenous Community, Oriente, Ecuador
The Achuar have inhabited the Amazon Basin for thousands of years, developing a vast, invaluable knowledge of their environment, land use and resource management, which has allowed both the people and ecosystems to survive. Kapawi is one of the last places where you can interact with an ancient culture, which will change your perception of your culture and the other cultures that share this planet. Your journey will allow for visits to the local communities to learn about their cultures and traditions.
