HIKING
From a short hike on well defined trails, to demanding hikes requiring excellent physical condition, there is something for everyone wanting to experience the jungle. The trail system at the Reserva Amazonica offers an excellent introduction to the jungle environment in Peru. Here you will find ¼ day hikes suitable for all, including children, to more strenuous full day hikes, all in the company of well trained guides, eager to share their extensive knowledge of this unique environment.
The world's longest canopy walkway is in the ExplorNapo Reserve, 75
miles from the Ceiba Tops Lodge in Peru, and can be visited on a day
trip from the lodge. This walkway along with walks in the primary
forest surrounding the lodge are just two of the reasons Ceiba Tops
is such a popular destination. |
BIRDING
There are more birds found in the Kapawi area alone than in all of North America.
The river islands often have Horned Screamers and Orinoco Geese. There
are many Blue-throated Piping Guars, herons and egrets to name just
a few others found in the area of Kapawi. A Black Bushbird often hangs
out near the cabanas and you can see and hear the Plumbeous Antbird
and many more from the lodge. This jungle area of Ecuador, as well
as the entire Amazon region is a paradise for birdwatchers.
The amazing macaw and parrot clay lick at Tambopata in Peru is one of the most visited clay licks in the world. Birds flock here early every morning to eat the clay providing a great opportunity for birders.
