BELIZE
The Belize Barrier Reef is the second longest reef in the world. It exceeds all other Caribbean dive destinations in terms of size and diversity. The most popular dive resorts are located on Ambergris Caye, south of Dangriga and in Placencia. Outside the main reef are three rare atolls, one which contains the celebrated Blue Hole. Several all-inclusive dive resorts can be found on the atolls. |
COSTA
RICA
Most of the snorkeling in Costa Rica is done in either Manuel Antonio National Park or off Cano Island. There is limited diving off the Guanacaste peninsula. All three are located on the Pacific side. |
HONDURAS
The same barrier reef that parallels Belize continues south and parallels Honduras. The Bay Island of Roatan is known for wall diving as well as accessible shore snorkeling and diving. The island of Utila is popular for whale shark diving. |
PANAMA
Bocas del Toro is one of Central America's premier diving and snorkeling
locations. The best sites here include Bastimentos Marine National
Park, Tiger Rock and Coral Cay. There is also good diving near Portobelo
and Isla Grande. Coiba Island is perhaps the country's best dive spot
and dive excursions here have set departures.
Diving is not permitted at the San Blas islands but there are a number of good snorkeling sites here as well as at the above mentioned sites.
