The 102 known Mayan archeological sites found in the lush jungle region of northern Guatemala characterize the region of El Peten. The largest and most spectacular of the excavated cities is Tikal, the greatest capital of the ancient Maya world. Tikal can easily be visited on a full day tour or overnight stay from the jungle lodges in the Cayo District of Belize. You can also fly to Flores, Guatemala, from Belize City, where a GL Tours representative will greet you at the airport and take you on a tour of Tikal. Afterwards, you will either return to the Flores airport for an afternoon flight back to Belize City or transfer to a jungle lodge in the park for an overnight stay. |
