La Pampa is the land
of the legendary gauchos. Here, amid immense plains, covered with
pasture and thistle, these “knights of La Pampa” ride herd on thousands
of head of cattle and invoke romantic fantasies of charm, skill and
chivalry. The best way to have a close look at the country life of a
gaucho is by taking part in a Fiesta Gaucha. Spend a full day on an
estancia. After a warm welcome, taste “empanadas” and partake in an
Argentinean barbecue, known as an “asado.” Enjoy excellent local wines,
a folk show and demonstrations of gaucho skills. Overnight stays can be
arranged at one of the estancias, which are elegant residences built in
British or French colonial style by landowners and converted into
comfortable country inns. |
