Often referred to as the “land of the Incas,” Peru is a magical world of myths
and legends. From the mysterious Nazca Lines etched in the sands of the arid desert coast to the age-old
customs observed by the natives of the Amazon Basin to the stories of the sun-god told over and over in the
highlands near Cusco, the Peruvian people have preserved their past.
Although the Inca conquered other
Indian cultures in the 15th century and the Spanish conquered the Inca in the 16th century,
traditions were not lost, but blended, and today, Peru is a land of great cultural and ethnic diversity.
