The Panama Canal

Take a full-day Panama Canal Transit. Begin this world-famous journey from the Pacific Ocean side. Enter the Miraflores Locks, which will raise you to a level of 56 feet above sea level into Miraflores Lake. Then, continue to Pedro Miguel Locks, the second level that will bring you up to 85 feet. From here, navigate through the engineering marvel of Gaillard Cut, the narrowest part of the Panama Canal. Continue to Gatun Lake, one of the largest man-made lakes in the world.

Arrive at the Gatun Spillway on the Atlantic side, one of the largest earth dams in the world. Enter Gatun Locks where you will descend in a three-step process to the Atlantic Ocean level and arrive at the city of Cristobal. Return by land to Panama City.

A partial Panama Canal Transit tour begins at Balboa Harbor. Your ship will be boarded by a Panama Canal Pilot and will proceed north of the Canal, where it will enter Miraflores Locks and be elevated to 56 feet above sea level. In Pedro Miguel Lake, the ship will turn around and lock down. Then, travel underneath the towering bridge of the Americas, past bird sanctuary Flamingo Island, into the Bay of Panama. From the bay you will get a fabulous panoramic view of Panama City.
