Amazon Basin

The Amazon Rainforest, tropical lowlands in the east of Ecuador, covers 45% of the country’s territory. Known as the greatest ecosystem on earth, it is home to a wide range of plants and animals.

Many of the rivers in the Amazon Basin, like Napo, Pastaza, Coca, and Tigre, are completely navigable, enabling tourists to venture deep into the Ecuadorian jungle. The Amazon Basin emphasizes strict environmental and cultural conservation. A minimum of 3 nights/4 days is necessary for a true jungle experience.

For a very special rainforest adventure, consider the virgin Achuar Sanctuary of Kapawi. Situated in the remotest area of the Ecuadorian Amazon River Basin, Kapawi Ecological Reserve, founded in 1993, reflects a new trend of eco-tourism in South America. Kapawi’s goal is to give a full jungle experience to visitors while helping the native Achuar community by providing economic support and respect for their land and culture.
